Hazelbury Open Air School, Edmonton, London

aka Hazelbury Road Open Air School

Hazelbury open air school was opened by Edmonton Borough Council in 1938. Initially, it had accommodation for 170 children, most of whom had TB (in common with other open air schools of the time). Later on, the school took in other 'delicate' children including those who had asthma.

Pamela has sent us the following memories:

"I went to the school at  Edmonton in about 1963-65. I lived in woodgreen and went to school each day by car that the school provided. I remember having sun lamp treatment and all my meals there. The class rooms had one wall that opened up to let the fresh air in and we all had blankets to keep warm"
